We all love them – the little sweet pastry sins. As sweet tooth experts, we can’t keep our favourite Lekkernijtjes cafés in Amsterdam from telling you all about their delicious pastries, cakes, biscuits and cakes. And so that those of you with a sweet tooth don’t miss out on the most delicious cakes in our canal city on your next trip to Amsterdam, we’ll tell you here where you can find the very best pastries in Amsterdam. After all, what could be more delicious than savouring a juicy apple pie with lots of whipped cream or a fragrant cinnamon bun with a cup of coffee in one of Amsterdam’s wonderful little cafés after our tours?

West: Selma’s Bakery

Selma’s – A charming café named after the owner’s Finnish grandmother, as little Anna used to watch her grandmother bake when she was a child. She has wonderful memories of her grandmother’s café in Helsinki. Passed down from generation to generation, Selma’s legacy makes countless cake customers happy every day. Here you’ll find the best of the best cinnamon buns in Amsterdam (oh nonsense, in the world!!). But beware, there is a high risk of addiction! Once you’ve tried these insanely good, cinnamon-y baked goods, you won’t be able to get enough of them. It’s definitely worth cycling to the west of Amsterdam, just outside the hustle and bustle of the city centre, for a few cinnamon buns…

Jordaan: Café Winkel 43

If you’re in Amsterdam, then of course you can’t miss the most typical Dutch pastry – the delicious and moist apple pie! Traditionally, the Dutch-style shortcrust apple pie is filled with cooked, chunky apple slices, sultanas, lemon slices and the perfect amount of cinnamon – a real dream! And the absolute best apple pie Amsterdam has to offer is baked at Café Winkel 43. Away from the numerous hipster cafés, Café Winkel 43 exudes a cosy, rustic atmosphere and offers plenty of space to linger on the terrace outside, on the market square in front of the Noorderkerk. So if you’re looking for THE cake of cakes in Amsterdam, this is the place for you!

9 Straatjes: Pluk

The hip and lovingly decorated Café Pluk in the centre of 9 Straatjes is the Instagram hotspot par excellence (yes, we also regularly take photos here for our Amsterdamliebe Instagram account). Not only do they serve delicious and juicy cakes, but also fruity treats: healthy, colourful bowls made from pureed berries. The bowls are freshly and lovingly prepared in front of you and simply taste delicious! Add a flavoured coffee or, on hot days, an iced tea made by Pluk – and you can enjoy the carefree atmosphere in the Jordaan to the full.

You can also find small, special finds at Pluk – especially if you want to spice up your interior: beautiful timers, mugs, dried flowers and chopping boards – all in a feminine, minimalist style.

Centrum: Laatste Kruimel

Right after our relaxed city centre tour, de Laatste Kruimel is the perfect place to take a little break before continuing sightseeing. We recommend the succulent carrot cake (but it doesn’t really matter what you have… it’s all amazing here!). The carrot cake is our favourite, right down to the last crumb! The café window alone is enough to make your mouth water: Carrot, apple, raspberry cake and much more… Everything your sweet tooth desires. And best of all: the cake dreams are baked right at the counter. The cosy café with its great ambience smells wonderfully of cinnamon, caramel and coffee. Heavenly! Cake in Amsterdam? Then definitely here!

If you get too much of the sweet stuff, you can also try the various sandwiches, salads and quiches that de Laatste Kruimel offers in all variations.

Centrum: Koffieschenkerij

The Koffieschenkerij – a café with a romantic flair in an unusual location. The cosy café is located in the Oude Kerk in the Red Light District, which many people find surprising at first. For us, the cosy café in the historic walls of Amsterdam’s oldest building is definitely the most beautiful place in the Red Light District! Right before or after our informative red light tour, we highly (!) recommend enjoying the afternoon sun there with a moist almond or lemon cake. The pastry selection is large – so large that even the gluten-free and vegan pastry fans among you will get their money’s worth! You can sit comfortably in the romantic garden or in the 16th century church extension: Oh, that’s how it should be! And because it’s so great here and the feelings of happiness sparkle, the Koffieschenkerij is of course also in our book of happy places! <3

De Pijp: My little Patisserie

Right after a little stroll through the Albert Cuypmarkt, where you can find fresh vegetables and delicious Dutch specialities, something very special awaits the foodies among you: in the heart of the Pijp district you will find the sweet creations of My little Patisserie. These delicious French desserts are not to be missed! From fluffy éclairs filled with Madagascar vanilla cream (so good!!) to sugar-sweet custard tarts with lemon-egg foam – a flavour experience that will catapult you to the highest heights of gourmet heaven and feel like a trip to Paris. Because these fabulous delicacies have it all! If that’s not enough, you can also take part in a workshop run by Audrey, the patisserie’s founder, and learn how to make these delightful little pastry creations yourself. They are a real eye-catcher at any garden or birthday party and, of course, a wonderful souvenir from Amsterdam.
